Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Competitive Energy Landscape

Competition in federally regulated wholesale energy markets make possible competitive state-level retail energy markets that work to the benefit of consumers

A well-functioning competitive wholesale energy market is the necessary foundation for state-level competitive retail energy markets that work to the benefit of consumers. A key factor in this regard is the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which regulates electricity sales at wholesale and approves the rules under which regional competitive wholesale energy markets work.

RESA is an active participant in proceedings before the FERC that have ramifications for retail energy suppliers and the state-level retail energy markets they operate in.
