Michigan offers limited opportunities for customer choice in electricity.
Michigan has retained opportunities for competitive choice in retail natural gas products and services.
A 2008 state law severely restricted opportunities for customer choice in electricity. The energy law limited a Michagan customer's choice for competitively priced electricity products and services to just 10 percent of the electricity demand within each of the state’s individual electric utilities' service territories. Those limits were quickly reached and the number of customers on the waiting list for competitive electric choice numbers more than 11,000. To register your support for pending legislation that would lift the limits on customer choice, become a part of the Customer Choice Coalition and support Energy Choice Now.
To help ensure active competition in the provision of natural gas supply services, RESA is active in many proceedings before the Michigan Public Service Commission involving rates and tariffs.
