HARRISBURG, PA – The Retail Energy Supply Association (RESA) welcomes today’s action by the New York Public Service Commission to initiate a proceeding to examine potential measures to improve the retail energy shopping experience for residential and small commercial customers.
To the extent that residential and small commercial customers need more transparency to compare the service offerings of energy service companies, RESA supports the idea that utilities should provide an appropriate technology platform to help consumers be better-informed shoppers. As for concerns about aggressive and misrepresentative sales practices, RESA strongly supports measures to enforce against such practices.
Many of the problems discussed by the Commission can be directly addressed by improving the market rules. Therefore, we welcome today’s decision as a real opportunity to improve the market structure and rules and eliminate some of the impediments for customers to shop.
RESA intends to work diligently with the Commission, staff and other interested stakeholders to further secure the benefits of competition for New York consumers.
