Question 3: Yes is BEST!

On November 6, 2018, Nevada voters will go to the polls to decide whether or not to approve Nevada’s Energy Choice Initiative, also known as Question 3. If approved, the Energy Choice Initiative would end NV Energy’s monopoly on electricity and allow consumers the right to choose their own electricity providers.

The Retail Energy Supply Association (RESA), a national industry trade association comprised of 20 leading retail energy suppliers, supports Nevada’s Energy Choice Initiative and urges voters to VOTE YES on Question 3.

Further, RESA calls into question recent claims by the NO on 3 campaign that electricity choice is a risky experiment, that prices will increase or that customers will suffer. RESA believes nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, restructured markets in states such as New York, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts are proof that competition benefits consumers.

Here are the real facts about Question 3:

  • It would give consumers the right to choose. Consumers like and expect choices. They can choose everything from a cell phone to a car, even a gallon of milk; they should be allowed to choose their electricity as well.
  • Historically, competition leads to better pricing. Competition has proven to be the most efficient, effective tool for ensuring the best possible prices in every market.
  • Energy choice will increase jobs. Removing the monopoly roadblock could bring 34,000 jobs to Nevada.
  • Competition will enhance Nevada’s clean energy future. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, more renewable energy is sold through competition than in any other way.
  • Nevada can control its own energy future and design the best market ever by learning from the experiences of other states.

RESA believes Nevadans have a clear choice in front of them this November. YES is BEST.
