RESA Applauds the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission for Encouraging Customers to Shop for Electricity

Upcoming Summer Rate Change Begins in June

(Harrisburg, PA) June 2, 2020 â€“ The Retail Energy Supply Association (RESA), the nation’s leading trade association representing competitive retail energy suppliers, is proud to support the efforts of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) for reminding consumers in Pennsylvania about their energy shopping choices.

The PUC recently announced that beginning in June, most electric distribution companies (EDCs) will be adjusting electric generation prices. Depending on where a customer’s service area is located, utility energy prices would increase or decrease during the summer, and the PUC encourages consumers to consider their options among competitive providers.

“RESA strongly supports educating consumers about energy choices, and empowering consumers to find which competitive energy supplier best meets their needs,” said Tracy McCormick, executive director of RESA. “Americans are looking for options that make sense for their individual and family needs. RESA hopes that other competitive energy states will consider following the PUC’s lead by keeping their residents informed of their energy options.”

The PUC has created an official electric shopping website, PAPowerSwitch.com, where details can be found on how to shop for electric supply services, review competitive offers, as well as find tips on energy conservation. The website is regularly updated and was recently upgraded to ensure easy navigation for a stress-free online experience.

“The role of the PUC is to balance the needs of consumers and utilities,” said Matt White, president of RESA. “They are protecting the interest of Pennsylvania residents by educating them so they can make the best, informed decisions possible. RESA strongly supports consumers to have a choice on who they do business with – in every aspect of their lives – and this includes energy.”
